subdivision crossovers - Mt Helena - Perth hills

subdivision crossovers - Mt Helena - Perth hills

Aug 2016

These Mount Helena property owners are in the process of subdividing their large block, and as part of the Shire / council approval process, each new block must have a sealed crossover leading from the road to the property boundary.

Our company was recommended to them by the Shire of Mundaring contractors list as we have worked in the area for over 30 years.

Each of the four crossovers were boxed out (excess fill removed and disposed of in an approved recycling depot). A hardstand was installed (roadbase / gravel / limestone - in this case gravel - also called ferricrete) which is orange in appearance and often used in Hills areas to blend into the surroundings. Often in the Perth hills areas, the existing surface is gravel hardstand and we are able to use that as a part of the basecourse, adding a top layer of ferricrete gravel onto that, which not only blends in but keeps the cost down.

7mm granite black hotmix / asphalt / bitumen was then laid onto the basecourse on all four crossovers to seal them, allowing each new subdivided block to be sold.

These property owners chose not to install kerbing on the sides of the crossover as budget not aesthetics was their primary concern. Kerbing is not necessary for strength or durability of the asphalt / bitumen / hotmix surface, and added to crossovers and driveways by some owners for aesthetic reasons.
